Ballet– A lyrical class in which fixed poses and steps are combined with light movements.
Ballet enhances coordination, increases stretch and flexibility, and develops focus and grace inside and out of the studio.
Dance Contempra highly recommends Ballet as a discipline due to the unlimited benefits it brings to the mind, body and
soul. Many athletes such as football players, wrestlers, gymnasts, and ice skaters use ballet as part of a cross training
regime. Junior and Senior Company Dancers must take a minimum of three (3) Ballet classes per week.
Jazz– A contemporary dance style which can be seen from Broadway to
music videos combining a variety of styles into an overall discipline insured to broaden any students repertoire. Dance
Contempra jazz is highly athletic. Junior and Senior Company Dancers must take at least one (1) class in Jazz or Modern
Dance.
Modern– A contemporary dance style
with technique based on ballet but with the freedom and athleticism of jazz. It focuses on centering alignment,
control, breathing, and balance. Modern dance is an important part of every well versed student’s training.
Technique is concentrated in Cunningham, May O’Donald, and Limon technique. Modern dance is now being incorporated
into most major dance companys' repertoire. As of January 2003 all Senior Company members are required to take one (1)
Modern dance class per week. Junior Company Dancers must take one (1) class in Jazz or Modern dance.
Hip-Hop– Only available to students 12 and over. An urban street
style form of dance. Hip-Hop is comprised of funky rhythmic moves and has cornered the market of the music video
industry. Hip-Hop is highly athletic and is for a more mature dancer. Entry to these classes by audition only!
